I Didn’t Cry!

Micah kicking in pool Micah under water Micah waving to Mom from pool Micah first swim ribbon

Today Micah earned his first swimming ribbon from his swim school.  It says “I Didn’t Cry”.  This was his 4th lesson and the first time he didn’t cry during it.  It seems like such a huge improvement in just one week.  We had talked about his lesson before last week and all he would say was “But not right now”.  This week seemed pretty much the same.  If we mentioned anything about swim lessons he just said “but not right now”.  So I expected pretty much the same reaction today when it was time to go to his lesson: sitting calmly watching the kids before him finish their lessons, but crying and saying “no” as soon as I said it was time for him to go in.  The last couple weeks I’ve had to pretty much carry him over and put him into his teacher’s arms in the pool.  What was the difference today?  I think it may have been the slide.  Today they set up a tube slide at the edge of the pool for the kids to slide into the pool.  I pointed it out to Micah and asked if he wanted to go on it and he said “Yes.”  I was a little surprised but thought that maybe he didn’t realize if he went on the slide he would go down all the way under the water.  But even after watching a couple other kids go down it and splash into the water he still said he wanted to go on it.  When his lesson time came and his teacher, Miss Spencer, came over, she asked him if he wanted to do the slide today and he said “Yes.”  He started walking over to it right away.  But she said first he had to do some swimming, then he could do the slide later.  So he walked right over to her at the edge of the pool and she helped him get in.  She gave me a look like “Wow!”  He did really good during the whole 20-minute lesson.  About halfway through on one of the times they were close to where I was watching Micah saw me and waved and I told him he was doing great.  Miss Spencer said she told him if he didn’t cry he would get a ribbon, so that’s what they were working toward today.  And he got it.  He was pretty proud.  The funny thing was, when it got close to the end of the lesson time and he could go to the slide, he didn’t end up doing it.  He actually climbed out of the pool and walked over to it and I helped him climb up the steps and sit down at the top of the slide.  He looked down it and said he didn’t want to go.  Even though he could see Miss Spencer at the bottom and she said she would catch him.  So I helped him climb back down the steps and he swam one more lap with Miss Spencer and got his ribbon.

Micah & Cisco walking back

This is so cute. The last couple days Micah has wanted to hold Cisco’s leash when we go for our walk. They walk pretty well together. I try to keep very aware of what’s coming though so I can take Cisco if I see anything I think will get Cisco excited that he might try to run toward and pull Micah down.

Click the picture to go to Flickr and see more recent photos of Micah at swim class (crying – he doesn’t like it so far), feeding Cisco by throwing his food to him piece by piece, napping under Caleb’s crib, playing with giant bubbles with Grandma Holly, and playing with Caleb. There’s also pictures of Caleb playing, sleeping, and sitting up.  When you click this picture you should see the bigger version in Flickr.  To the right of the photo there should be a link to “Christy Y’s photostream”.  Click there to see more of my pictures.

Father’s Day

Father’s Day

Originally uploaded by Christy Y.

Here’s Sam with his boys on Father’s Day. Micah doesn’t like getting his picture taken much these days. He does like playing with cars, watching movies and singing songs. His recent favorite movies are VeggieTales and he can sing the theme song. He has started playing with Caleb more recently too. It is so cute to watch. He will hand Caleb his toys to grab or make silly faces and noises to make Caleb laugh.

Caleb is huge. He weighs over 25 pounds already at 5 months old. He is bulging in his 12 months clothes. We’re going to have to move up to 18 month clothes very soon I think. If you sit him up on the floor he can stay sitting for quite a while now. Just today he finally hit the big milestone of rolling over. He rolled from his tummy to back for the first time today. He is eating 2 solid meals a day now of rice cereal and vegetables. So far he has tried peas, squash, and carrots. He’s not quite as enthusaistic of an eater as Micah was, but he does pretty good. He is quite messy though. He likes to suck on his fingers between bites so his hands get very messy, and then he grabs everything he can reach and gets it all messy too. He also seems more vocal than we remember Micah being. He makes all kinds of grunts and squeals and baby talk. He actually did the classic baby “ga-ga” the other day. He also says “ma-ma-ma” or “na-na-na” a lot and has done “ba-ba” once or twice. He can make raspberries too which he likes to do when he’s about done eating, and that can also be pretty messy. He’s gotten into a pretty regular routine now of about 3 naps a day and sleeps pretty well through the night mostly. I’ve even gotten his afternoon nap to overlap Micah’s enough for me to get a little nap too some days.  The boys have been sharing a room now for a couple weeks and it is going pretty well.

Caleb & Great-Grandma

We just spent a week in San Diego for a family vacation. We did a lot of fun stuff and took quite a few great pictures, but this may be my favorite of the bunch. I just love the way Caleb and his Great-Grandma are both looking at each other and smiling so big. You can tell they’re having such a great time. It’s precious.

I think if you click on this picture you will go into Flickr and should be able to see other pictures from our trip.
