Caleb’s First Teeth

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

Caleb’s first tooth broke through about two weeks ago on September 9 (at 8 months old) and his second came about a week later on September 17.  He had been showing symptoms of teething off and on for a couple months: chewing, drooling, fussing a little, etc. but not really too bad.  They may have intensified a little just before the teeth finally broke through but he didn’t seem too terribly uncomfortable.  His two teeth are on the bottom and just getting to where it is easy to see them when he opens his mouth.

Caleb also just started playing Peek-a-boo yesterday.  He has liked watching us do it for a while now, but he actually tried to hide and peek out yesterday.  I put a burp cloth over his head and said, “Where’s Caleb?” and when he pulled it down I said, “Peek-a-boo!” and then he lifted the cloth back up to try to cover his face again.  We did that several times.  It was pretty cute.

Caleb is 8 and a half months old now.  He weighs about 27lbs and wears size 18 month clothes, mostly.  He has his 9 month doctor appointment coming up in almost 2 weeks.  He can get around by rolling, although he usually doesn’t go far.  He will sit in one spot and play for a quite a while.  He does manage to turn himself around while sitting up too.  He likes his walker a lot and runs all over the kitchen and dining room in it and likes openning the drawers on the china cabinet from in the walker.  He’s not tall enough to reach into the drawers yet though, thankfully.

Caleb loves to make noise.  He babbles a lot (more than Micah did) and right now his favorite syllable is “da-da-da”, although I don’t think he associates that with Daddy yet.  He also makes lots of silly sounds such as raspberries and sounds I’m not sure how to describe in words.  He likes toys that make noise too: rattles, bells, crinkles.  He likes to drum or pat things, especially hands.  He loves “Pattycake” and “This Little Piggy”.
