Getting Ready for Christmas

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

I have always loved Christmas and all the preparations, especially decorating the tree and house and wrapping gifts and listening to Christmas music. This year is extra exciting because it is Caleb’s first Christmas ever and Micah’s first one where he actually remembers a little bit from last year and is getting excited about it this year. I was surprised but Micah actually remembered about the lights on the houses and where we set up our Christmas tree last year. We have a couple of different advent/countdown calendars that Micah has been enjoying since the beginning of December. One has figures for a nativity scene in little pockets so you can put one up on the scene each day to fill it in. The other has little drawers to open each day which I had filled with treats like candy, stickers, nuts, and small toys. Every day he asks what day it is and if he can open the calendar. Sometimes he even thinks he should open a new one after his nap, like it’s another day. Micah also liked decorating the tree and kept asking for days if he could decorate it some more. We did get some extra ornaments here and there so he has been adding them on.

Caleb is enjoying the season too I think. He liked holding ornaments by their strings and swinging them around when we were decorating the tree. He especially lkes the ornaments that look like balls or that make noise, such as jingle bells. He generally didn’t care to wear his First Christmas Santa hat, but if he was distracted with something else until I got it on him, he would not realize it was there for a while and leave it alone. So I did get a few cute pictures of him with it. Grandma Holly actaully found him a “Baby’s First Christmas” shirt in an 18-month size, which I never expected to get for him because why would they make 1st Christmas stuff in sizes above 12 months?

We are planning a whirlwind tour of Southern California this weekend to see a lot of our family for Christmas. Tomorrow morning we’ll go down to Grandma & Grandpa Jenkinsons’ in Lakewood to visit with them and Grandpa Don’s side of the family. Then we’ll go to Aunt Karen & Uncle Tom’s in Chino Hills to visit with Grandma Holly’s side. From there we’re heading down toward San Diego to Sam’s family. We’ll be in Ramona with Grandma & Grandpa Yates in the morning and then we’ll all head to Aunt Dawn’s in Temecula for a visit with Grandma Linda’s family. After that we’ll head home. We’ll be getting home kinda late Christmas Eve but we like to be home for Christmas morning. Hopefully the boys will sleep in the car a lot and be able to get their naps in between all the visiting and not be too off-schedule. Sam’s company shuts down the week between Christmas and New Years’ so it will be nice to just be able to relax together at home after the Christmas busyness.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
