big & little bunnies

Here are Micah & Caleb all dressed up on Easter. This was after church and before we went to Grandma & Grandpa Jenkinsons’ house. (They did not wear the bunny ears to church. :) In fact Caleb barely wore them long enough for a picture).

Before church we did an Easter egg hunt at home. They enjoyed finding the plastic eggs and discovering what was inside them (candy, stickers, coins, Goldfish, Cheerios, Puffs). They also had to find their Easter baskets. They each got a punch ballon in their baskets. Micah also got a chocolate bunny, a big egg with toy Sally from Cars inside, a Cars read-along book with CD, and lamb ears. Caleb got bunny ears and a big egg with a toy Sesame Street car inside, and some eggs with baby-friendly treats like Gerber fruit snacks and Puffs. He didn’t get to eat any candy this year. He loved shaking the eggs to hear the different sounds of different candies or coins inside.

I plan to make a set of shaker eggs for them by putting different things inside plastic Easter eggs and gluing them shut. I’ll make two eggs with each item and they can shake them and try to match the pairs with the same sounds.

After church, we came home for a quick lunch then left for Grandma & Grandpa’s house. We had Easter dinner there and another egg hunt in the backyard with friends Kayla and Savannah. Then Micah & Caleb stayed overnight while Mom & Dad went home. They had a great time staying with Grandma & Grandpa and Mom got a ton of stuff done before they came back home Tuesday afternoon. Thanks Grandma & Grandpa!

Caleb walking

Originally uploaded by Christy Y.

Caleb started really walking completely by himself on his 15 month birthday, April 3. This was the first time he got to his hands and feet then stood up on his own and started walking. No help with pulling up or anything. That was a Tuesday.

So on Friday we went to get him his first real shoes. They are the classic white first baby shoes. It took him a little while to get used to having this thick heavy things on his feet. I made him wait till Easter to wear them out so they would be shiny & new with his nice Easter suit. I knew they would get scuffed the first time he fell down and crawled in them or even pulled himself back up. So he’s been wearing them almost a week now and can walk great in them now.

Anyway, here is a picture of Caleb walking around Grandma Holly & Grandpa Don’s backyard on Easter in his new shoes. Note the hands up for balance and the tongue out (and twisted) for concentration. He sticks that tongue out a lot when he walks. I am afraid he his going to bite it off one day when he falls.

I am still getting used to seeing him walk around the house. It still kinda surprises me when I see him standing against the couch or something and then just step away and let go and start walking somewhere. I still expect him to go down to hands & knees and crawl, but he is actually walking at least as much as crawling to get around now I would say.

waiting to take pictures at Sears

Here are Micah and Caleb all dressed up in their Easter suits waiting to have their portraits taken at Sears. We got a couple really good shots of each of them alone and a couple of decent ones of both of them together. We did the pictures barefoot because I hadn’t had a chance to get them new dress shoes.

We went shoe shopping today and got Caleb his first real shoes since he is walking now. Tuesday (his 15 month birthday) was the first time he got from hands and feet to standing up to walking all by himself. He practices a lot and seems to improve so fast that I’m sure he will be running by next week. So now he has nice new white shoes to get used to. We got Micah some new black dress shoes to wear with his suit for Easter. I’m still debating whether to have them wear their suits just for church or leave them in them for the visit at Grandma & Grandpa Jenkinson’s house for the afternoon.

Today we also baked and decorated Easter cutout cookies. Micah’s favorite part is shaking the sprinkles or colored sugar on and especially eating the extra ones that fall on the tray. Tomorrow we plan to decorate Easter eggs.

We went camping with Sam’s parents and cousin Austin this past weekend. It was great. We went to a campground near Sam’s parents house called Dos Picos. It was really nice: very shady, big campsites, lots of families and dogs, not too loud, a great playground, a little pond, and more. We slept in Grandma & Grandpa’s trailer and they used their tent. It was so nice to have that all set up for us and have that much less stuff to worry about packing. It is a tight fit in our Pilot for the four of us, plus Cisco and all our camping gear. We enjoyed walking down to play at the playground, feeding the ducks on the pond, and just hanging around the campsite visiting. We also had a little birthday party for Grandpa on Sunday which Great-Grandma and Aunt Cathy joined us for. It was a fun weekend.
