costumed boys jumping warmup

Halloween started with us making a trip to WalMart to try to find a bow to go with Micah’s Robin Hood costume. We had looked at a few other stores over the last week or so and couldn’t find one. But we did finally find a small toy one at WalMart that would work. As a bonus, the greeter was passing out candy so they boys each got a little lollipop for an early Halloween treat.
After naps we carved our pumpkin. Mom cut off the top and scooped out the inside. Then we tried out this little Lite-Brite style pumpkin decorating kit we had. It had patterns, colored pegs, a hammer to pound them in, and a battery-operated light to put inside. The boys had fun taking turns pounding the pegs in and we liked the cute face on our pumpkin when it was done.
This was the best photo I got of the boys together in their costumes this year. Micah doesn’t have his props here which would make it easier to tell that he is Robin Hood (as opposed to Peter Pan). I don’t think I ever did get a picture of him with everything together. I got him with the bow and quiver of arrows, but then by the time we got his boots on he was done with the quiver and the hat. Oh well. Caleb’s hat/ears didn’t last too long either and the black nose rubbed off even sooner.
Anyway, here they had the main parts on and I took them in to look at themselves in the big mirror. Then they had a little warm-up jump on Mom & Dad’s bed – getting ready for the jumpers at Harvest Fest.
We went to Harvest Fest at church. They had 8 inflatable jumpers in the main worship center; along with a life-sized Candy Land game and several other carnival game booths. We stopped in the lobby for hot dogs for dinner first. Grandma Holly & Grandpa Don had come up to visit for the afternoon/evening and came with us. Once we went in, the boys headed for the jumpers. They love those things! Caleb stayed in the first one he went in for a half hour or more! Micah tried jumping in several different jumpers with some of his friends and also played Candy Land and most of the other games. Finally Caleb came out of the jumper and played a couple games too. They were worn out before the end and were actually asking to go home and to bed.
However, once we got home they didn’t seem quite so exhausted. Micah enjoyed passing out candy to a few trick-or-treaters that came. Finally they got into bed and once they were there, fell asleep pretty quick.

Caleb’s First Swim Ribbon

Caleb’s first swim ribbon

Originally uploaded by Christy Y

Caleb earned his first swim ribbon this week. It says “I went down the slide.” The last week of the month they set up the slide by the edge of the pool so the kids can go down the slide into the pool at the end of their lesson. Caleb said he wanted to so I helped him up the steps. Once he was sitting at the top he seemed a little unsure, but I let him go and his teacher caught him. Right away he said he wanted to do it again, but then he changed his mind. But at least he did it once and he got his ribbon. Great job, Caleb!

boys by growth chart

About two weeks ago we took a little trip to a local farm to pick out pumpkins. I like this pumpkin growth chart they have there; you can see how big the boys are getting. Micah is almost 3 and 1/2 feet tall and Caleb is almost 3 feet. Micah was just over 3 feet tall by the same sign last year.
We had a fun time at the farm. We looked at all the animals and fed some of them. Then we played on the toys for a bit. Then we borrowed a wagon and went to look at the pumpkins. Micah & Caleb each picked out a small pumpkin and Mommy picked a big one. They liked watching the big tractor pulling a big trailer for hayrides. Micah also enjoyed getting to climb up and sit on a big tractor and pretend to drive it.

ready for double jump

Micah & Caleb were able to have their swim lessons overlap enough to get to swim across the pool together and do a double jump a couple weeks ago. How fun!
